An affirmation is any statement that you say or think. Unfortunately for many, most of our thoughts and actions are negative and create immense suffering for us. Acknowledging that you are the creator and always in creation mode, is one of the most powerful ways we can change our reality is to retrain our thinking and how we speak to ourselves.
I remember picking up Louise Hay’s world famous book You Can Heal Your Life when I was a young girl. I was fascinated by the concept of changing my body and mind-set through repeating positive statements. According to Louise,
“An affirmation opens the door. It’s a beginning point on the path to change. In essence, you’re saying to your subconscious mind: “I am taking responsibility. I am aware that there is something I can do to change.” When I talk about doing affirmations, I mean consciously choosing words that will either help eliminate something from your life or help create something new in your life.” (From http://www.louisehay.com/the-power-of-affirmations)
Remember: you are the creator. Therefore, it is important that you are conscious of all your thoughts, words, and actions—yes, actions! Saying affirmations is not enough. It is only part of the process.
How you show up in life is even more important. For example, there is no point in reciting “I have integrity and am totally reliable” and then spending the afternoon gossiping about a colleague or not doing a task to the best of your ability or lying to your partner about how much you spent on a dress.
The more you choose to think thoughts that make you feel good, and the more you make choices in alignment with these intentions, the quicker the affirmations will work.
Here are some of my favourite affirmations:
- Today I bless my being with limitless courage.
- I am guided in my every step by Spirit who leads me towards what I must know and do.
- I wake up today with strength in my heart and clarity in my mind.
- I let go of all resistance and surrender to the Power Within.
- All my actions are in perfect harmony with my purpose.
- I trust that everything in my life is working for my highest good and I am receiving all that I am meant to have.
